This is my photographic response to a recent photo challenge by The Daily Post. I like taking photos, especially for this type of challenge. I find it leads me to see the world differently. And seeing the world differently is something I always find enriching.
I was feeling a bit stumped about “unique.” Then as we were leaving church Sunday, I opened my car door and snowflakes fell on the metal door sill near the floor. Our car is kind of a teal color (its official name is “Baltic Green), and the snowflakes showed up well against it. I noticed that, instead of falling in indistinguishable clumps like it often does, the snowflakes were falling as discrete little flakes.
“Look at these!” I called to my daughter, and proceeded to do like I usually do and tell her something she already knows: “Did you know that no two snowflakes are alike? Each of them is unique.”
I could almost hear the little bell chime in my brain when I heard myself say “unique.”
After a scramble, I realized that my camera was at home on the desk rather than in the diaper bag where I usually keep it. As we drove home, I hoped the snow wouldn’t stop or change to the more common clumping variety before we arrived. I ran inside and returned to our front porch with my point-and-shoot in hand.
I was aiming to zoom in on that perfect little snowflake in the middle, but my camera had different ideas. I’m pretty pleased with it anyway.
