Today is the day!
The Classics Club announced the lucky Spin number and it’s…
2!
On my Spin list, that’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.
I think I’d actually have been more excited for #1 (Moby-Dick) or #3 (The House of Mirth), but it will be nice to cross this one off my list. And based on the reviews I’ve read, it might be better than I expect. One of the many benefits of low expectations is that I’m frequently pleasantly surprised.
I’d like The House of Mirth more than Uncle Tom’s Cabin, but as you said, at least it’s made you focus on a book you might not have naturally, which is what the spin is about (thank heaven for it!). I hope you have a great reading experience and inspire those of us with similar feelings of trepidation to read it too! 🙂

That certainly is something to like about the spin, that it keeps me from leaving until the end all of the books about which I’m feeling reticent!

Haven’t read this book since college, but I remember it being powerful and the characters so well-developed. I really, really loved it and it’s on my list to re-read with my son when he gets older. I think you’ll enjoy it.
