While you might catch more flies with honey, it turns out you actually catch more fruit flies with vinegar.

Most specifically, this is about two ounces of apple cider vinegar and about three drops of liquid dish soap in a plastic cup. Thanks to my in-laws for passing along the recipe when we most needed it.
Related article (this one suggests putting plastic wrap over the top of the cup and putting holes in it. I didn’t try it that way, but it seemed to work just fine open, if you don’t mind the smell of vinegar)):

We’ve done just acv with a paper cone ending in a tiny hole & that works. I haven’t tried the dish soap, too. Hopefully, I won’t have reason to try this again any time soon, though.
