This much-delayed Bookends post is brought to you by my indecision about what to write about.
There are so many topics that I’d like to dig into: Outcome vs progress, my impending empty nest (and the concern about what it means if it’s not as empty as I expect), the responsibilities of being a citizen in a democratic country, my perennial drive to overhaul my priorities and make new and exciting goals combined with the perennial seasonal illnesses that bring me a reality check to my ambitions.
I’ll likely get to one or more of those in the months to come, but for November, I’m just going to preface my reading report with the announcement:
I am excited to report that an audiobook I narrated came out in November! It’s Murder Among the Marigolds by Diane Scotland, and it’s available on Audible. Murder Among the Marigolds is a cozy mystery set during a small-town fall festival and featuring a budding romance, a quirky best friend, two clue-finding pets, and some high jinks. At about 5 hours long, it’s a great listen for a drive or while wrapping gifts, baking cookies, or making other preparations for seasonal merriment. If you listen, please consider leaving a review on your preferred platform (Audible, Amazon, Goodreads, The StoryGraph, Litsy…).
One reviewer on The StoryGraph writes: “Our narrator…never misses a beat. Her voices are clear and distinct for each character. In fact they are so distinguished from one another, like character Lucy and our despicable victim, it’s hard to believe only one person is narrating.”
So, that feels good!
Recording the audiobook was a lot of fun, and I learned so much about refining my workflow, about preventing mouth clicks, and about how not to have work-life balance (I’m hoping that with the next book I’ll learn how to have that balance). After a little break to celebrate over the holidays and for my first winter cold to abate, I’ll be jumping back into the audition routine.
And that seems like a big enough announcement to start off this Bookends post. Here’s what I read in November:
