The Rodney Dangerfield of Biomes

I’m having a much easier time finding books about rainforests at our local library than I did finding books about grasslands. You’d think that with so many different names (prairie, steppes, pampas, savannah, veldt…) and covering up to 1/4 of the earth’s surface, grasslands would be better represented.

I wonder if there are biomes that get less respect than grasslands.

Maybe tundra.

I wonder if I would be wondering any of this if I weren’t homeschooling.

Probably not.

  1. this gave me a good chuckle. Even without homeschooling, I’m learning so much just by wanting to give my girl everything I can.
    Also, great post title!

    1. Well, thank you! I suppose I’ve pondered biomes in my pre-homeschooling life (I really like the word “taiga”), but I doubt I would have been looking up quite this many books about each biome in succession if I weren’t trying to bolster my daughter’s science curriculum. I’m glad to give you a chuckle!
