5 Reasons I Love Semi-Psychic Sally by Sara George

This summer I had the privilege of narrating the audiobook for Sara George’s second novel, Semi-Psychic Sally, which comes out on September 1st.

Here’s the blurb:

This doesn’t quite capture what this book was like for me to read, so here are 5 reasons I love Semi-Psychic Sally:

  1. The characters are emotionally complex. In my reading life, I love complex characters, and I was thrilled to find that Sara George’s characters are three-dimensional and read like real, nuanced people with messy, nuanced problems, and they learn and grow over the course of the novel. I laughed, cried, and cringed at these characters at different times while reading; I love characters that make me feel feels.
  2. The humor is organic, relatable, and funny. Sara’s sense of humor is apparent from her Instagram page, but it also comes through clearly in her fiction, and this is part of what makes her characters feel so real and complex. (see Reason #1)
  3. There’s heat without spice. This is a “no-spice” romance, but that doesn’t mean there’s no heat. There are several scenes that feel sweetly steamy without being explicit and that left me with a pleasant glow but that I didn’t feel awkward to listen to with my firstborn (who’s 21. For the record, my firstborn also loved the story, but I’m trying not to speak for my children so I’ll let them review it on their own, if they choose to).
  4. There’s a happy ending. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of my favorite books are kind of…depressing. So I was a little surprised at how satisfying it was to read a book with a happy ending. I guess sometimes even the Eeyores of the world like a little sweetness.
  5. It was a blast to narrate! This won’t be a surprise to anyone I’ve seen in real life over the past several months because I tell everyone I meet, but I seriously had so much fun performing this audiobook, and I couldn’t wait to get into the booth each morning. I estimate that, between prep work, recording, and editing, I read every word of this book at least five times, and I never got tired of it. Every time I read it, I found something new, another layer or another angle I hadn’t noticed before, which was so much fun. I hope my enthusiasm and investment in the story comes through in my narration.

I recognize that I am likely biased because I narrated the audiobook, but I love this book so much that even if you’re not an audiobook person, I really hope you get the paperback or ebook and enjoy it that way. I mean, I hope you get and enjoy the audiobook, but if audiobooks aren’t your jam, I’d rather you read the story with your eyes than miss out on this book entirely.

The audiobook release of Semi-Psychic Sally by Sara George is September 1, 2026, and you can get it wherever you get your audiobooks…even the library!
