I’m a little late posting the walk we took for the seventh week after the vernal equinox because this was supposed to be just a bonus hike.
Our official hike was going to be with my mom when she visited this week, but it turns out she’s not as big a fan of hiking in the rain as we are.
Maybe it’s because she’s spent less time in the desert than we have.
Maybe it’s because she didn’t bring a rain suit. Or maybe it’s just that she has the sense to come in out of the rain.
It was a nice bonus hike, even though it happened without my mom. One highlight: this little reptile.
My spouse and both of my children stepped right over it. Curled up in the middle of the trail, it looked a lot like last fall’s leaves. I was at the end of the line and called everyone back to see it.
We also saw this fellow, despite his obvious belief that he was being invisible:
(In case you’re having trouble spotting him, he’s just to the left of the tree trunk in the middle of the photo.)
The forecast looks a little dryer this week, so I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to squeeze in a mom-filled hike in the midst of party planning for my daughter’s 11th birthday.
